Newmount Brass

Stacks Image 448

Newmount Brass is a friendly brass band based in Littleover, Derbyshire. The band usually performs at around 12 to 15 events each year. Rehearsals are held at Newmount Methodist Church, every Wednesday evening at 19.30. Current repertoire includes traditional marches, popular songs, film and television scores, songs from the musicals and hymn arrangements.

The band was officially formed in late February 2005, with Alan Salmon and Mick Sharp as Musical Director and Chairman respectively. With support from other local bands, Newmount Brass soon grew from strength to strength.

Notable highlights include performing for the Burma Star Association at Derby Cathedral and in several concerts at Sewerby Hall, Bridlington.

In 2014, both Alan and Mick stood down from their roles after nine years of service to the band. Both were invited to become Honorary Vice-Presidents in recognition of their outstanding contribution to Newmount Brass. Local conductor and classroom music teacher Tim Robinson was appointed as Musical Director.
